An e-course on song translation in ASL
This e-course takes a closer look at four of Rosa Lee's most popular ASL Music Videos via YouTube. Song selections include: “What's Love Got To Do With It” by Tina Turner, “Blown Away” by Carrie Underwood, “She Drives Me Crazy” by Fine Young Cannibals, and “Power of Love” by Celine Dion. Students will have access to raw footages of Rosa Lee’s translation process as well as her personal reflections on the evolution of a song translation. Students will learn about three key elements of English-to-ASL song translation process via lectures and articles.
Rosa Lee is a Deaf Performance Artist known mostly for her ASL Music Videos on YouTube, her work as a solo performer in The Rosa Lee Show and as a lead actor in ASL Films’ feature film, Versa Effect.
For the past 23 years, she has been in several stage productions, performance troupes, and countless ASL-based and educational videos. She worked as an ASL translator and Performer for Deaf Film Camp at Camp Mark Seven's viral ASL music video called, "Happy" by Pharrell. She also can be found traveling across the country giving workshops on the art of ASL music, storytelling, and rhythm.
